A man in Igbeti town in Oyo State, Mr Segun Oderinde, has been remanded in prison by a magistrate court for allegedly impregnating his daughter.

He was charged with a three-count charge of rape at a magistrate court in Kisi where he was ordered to be remanded.

The alleged rape victim, name withheld, has since given birth to a male child.

The victim, according to police sources, who is 16 years old, was living with her father in the same room when she was allegedly impregnated by her father.

The rape victim was reclaimed by her father from her mother who had remarried another man after the marriage with the girl's father broke down 13 years ago.

It was learnt that the accused, 42, came home late and heavily drunk on December 1, last year. He allegedly threatened her daughter, raped her and continued with the act for a long time until she became pregnant.

It was also learnt that the girl immediately reported the case to her step mothers who live in different houses but that they did not take it seriously. The man married two wives after his earlier marriage collapsed.

The child mother, according to police sources, vividly recounted how she was raped on several dates from December last year to April this year.

The father initially denied the allegation but later confessed to having carnal knowledge of her during investigation. He insisted that he did not impregnate her.

The child mother gave birth to a baby boy at the General Hospital, Igbeti.
